Eight senior local history researchers and librarians from China visited the council's heritage service last month.
It was part of a fact finding tour of Britain, organised by the Chinese Business Network, to see how local and national public archive services are run.
Based in the Central Library, Uxbridge, Hillingdon's heritage service has a wealth of historical information including personal papers, business records, local newspapers and archives dating from the 12th century to today.
The service is also the custodian of hundreds of museum items, many of them donated by local people, ranging from household and personal items to old photographs and World War II memorabilia.
Cllr Henry Higgins, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, said:
"Our local studies and archive staff were delighted to show the Chinese delegation how they work. One of the things they highlighted was the lottery funded project with Brunel University and the British and Foreign School Society to catalogue and digitise the borough's collections.".
