In April of this year, the reading room at the University's Archive & Records Centre, situated within the Haywood Building, opened to the public. The room, seating up to 34 readers, is equipped with a light box, microfilm reader and will have computer access. Items from the collections along with exhibitions of material from the archives are displayed throughout the reading room. On opening, the Centre welcomed its first visitor from Japan, a lecturer at Kyoto Prefectural University.
Situated on the Brunel University's historic Runnymede Campus, the Centre has provided a venue for several meetings. The Centre's reading room as a meeting facility has been well received and it is hoped to extend this service.
The War memorial plaques which were formerly located in Lancaster House entrance on the University's former Osterley campus have now been received and are in the process of being installed in the reading room. The Borough Road College stone memorial cross commemorating those who died in both World Wars remains at Borough Road. This memorial is registered with the National Inventory of War Memorials and details can be found at www.ukniw.org.uk
