Heritage Builds Bridges

Brunel University holds the archives of Maria Grey College and Shoreditch College among its own collections.

The archives of Maria Grey and the Teacher Training Registration Society (TTRS) document the history of education, particularly for women and the fight to raise the status of women teachers and for teaching to be recognised as a profession for women. The collection comprises TTRS Annual Reports and the Committee papers, the College Magazine, prospectuses, photographs, correspondence and published works by Maria Grey and her sister Emily Shirreff.

Shoreditch College archives reflect design and technology teacher-training courses and include an assortment of rare books on topics such as woodworking, metalworking, manual training, turning and cabinet making as well as College minutes, correspondence and memorabilia.
