1. Choose which catalogue you want to search from the drop-down list which catalogue you want to search: either Archives or Museum
2. Insert the word or phrase you are looking for in the appropriate field*. Click on the List icons to the right of each field to help you find the right term
3. Click on one of the buttons below if you want to sort your results
4. Press the "Search" button
In the museum catalogue you can search the object name field to find particular types of object such as 'arrowheads' or 'doll'.
Enter dates as year, month, day, where known (e.g. 1815-03-07) and people’s names surname first (e.g. Grey, Maria).
Write the names of businesses and organisations in natural language (eg. BA as British Airways).
*Search fields:
Word(s) from the title/description is a free text search, similar to the simple search. Just write in any words you want the catalogue to search for you.
Subject will search for records related to specific subjects such as 'schools' or 'World War Two'. With this field you can also search for documents such as Minute Books and places such as Uxbridge, Middlesex.
Person/Institution will search for records relating to a particular person, family, organisation, military unit or business.
Creator works in the same way but only relates to people or organisations that have actually created archives or museum objects in the catalogue.
